The role of the PCSO within the PUPIL Scheme is intended to be dynamic and supportive. The forces of Gwent and South Wales recognised the potential and need to assimilate their PCSOs within the heart of the communities in which they worked, and there is no where closer to the heart than in a communities’ young people.
The PCSOs act as a positive role model for the young poeple as well as a vital source of information and link to the hapenings in their communities. It allows both the PCSOs and the young people to interact in a pro active manner and build up relationships of trust and respect breaking down the barriers and stereotypes held on both sides.
